James Morrell, Being Neighborly

Leadership Buffalo Class of 2017
James Morrell center with LB CEO Althea Luehrsen
James Morrell, a former graduate of Leadership Buffalo (1998), recently served on an advisory panel for their Class Experience group (July 12) as well as provided a stand-along presentation for their Rising Leaders team (July 19) as part of their respective 2017 Neighborhood Days.
Leadership Buffalo is a year-long community discovery program, and Neighborhood day is one of eight day sessions within the program.

Split over two days, classes break into small groups of 5-8 people to explore neighborhoods throughout Buffalo including the West Side, Fruit Belt, University Heights, and the East Side.  The goal is to see what challenges face our community, and explore how current and rising leaders in Buffalo can work to make Buffalo better.   This year, Leadership Buffalo participants used public transportation to get to and around our neighborhoods throughout the day.

During both sessions James talked about the benefits of using public transportation as well as Metro's enhanced fare collection system that is scheduled for launch in 2018.  He also addressed NFTA's involvement with neighborhood revitalization efforts and transit oriented development within our local community.

James said, "It was great to be a part of neighborhood day and have the interactive opportunity to discuss the resurgence efforts of many of our local businesses and community members.   It was also a bonus to be included in another Leadership Buffalo photo - some twenty years later."
