Legislature Honors C. Douglas Hartmayer

Chairman John Mills, Legislator Edward A. Rath III,
NFTA Executive Director Kimberley Minkel, C. Douglas Hartmayer.
NFTA Spokesman Doug Hartmayer has overseen the Transporter since its inception. As such, he hasn’t been it. He has always found self-promotion unseemly. But news is news, so we’re not going to run this story by him before we post it.

Doug was honored by the Erie County Legislature Thursday, March 23, for years of outstanding service to the community. The proclamation honoring Doug was read into the record by Legislator Edward A. Rath III.

While everyone at the NFTA recognizes Doug as the tireless face of the Authority for the last 17 years, many do not know the full extent of his support for the people of Western New York. Doug has served on the board of the Better Business Bureau, Visit Buffalo Niagara, and the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission. He’s given his time and talents to the St. Adalbert’s Response to Love Center, the Western New York Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kaden’s Kisses, Hospice Buffalo, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

That is an abbreviated list.

Our favorite example of Doug’s efforts in the community come from Honor Flight Buffalo, the organization that sends Veterans of World War II to Washington to visit the Armed Services Memorials. Doug has served as master of ceremonies for years. It usually means getting up shy of five in the morning, on a Saturday, getting to the Buffalo Airport and working to give our Veterans the respect they deserve.

Doug retires at the end of this month. His wise and steady hand will be missed.
