Jason Abounader, leading the way
During the year-long program, Jason was involved with various activities including participation in webinars on topics such as finance, budgeting, advocacy and board relations as well as networking with various transit professionals. In addition, Jason also had the opportunity to travel to various cities in an effort to learn more about state-wide public transit initiatives.
Some of the highlights included touring the New York State Capital and Legislature Office Building in Albany on Transit Awareness Day as well as the Mother Clara Hale Depot in New York City. Jason and his team also had the great honor of shadowing Bill Carpenter, Chief Executive Officer, at the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation where he took a tour of the facility, spoke with the finance team and was exposed to an overall broad view of the agency's operations. Throughout this visit, the group, as a whole, was able to gain a more comprehensive perspective of the pivotal role a transit executive plays in the logistics and delivery of reliable transit services to customers.
The PTLI program concluded on October 18 at the fall NYPTA Conference in Albany, which included presentations to the NYPTA Board of Directors in addition to a graduation ceremony.
About his participation Jason said, "The PTLI program truly exceeded my expectations. I was able to interact with a group of diverse transit executives and gained a broader perspective of public transit, specifically on the leadership level. However, during various training sessions I also found that many other transit agencies share a lot of common challenges that we face at NFTA and having the chance to openly discuss options and possible solutions was extremely valuable. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity on many levels, it has truly strengthened my professional development."
Jason holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Canisius College, and he is also a Board Member for Shared Mobility, Inc. Please help in congratulating Jason on his newest accomplishment.
