Crime Stoppers honor Lt. Mike Davies

Capt.Michael Garrity, Chief George Gast,
Lt. Mike Davies, Exec. Dir. Kimberley Minkel
On April 14, Lt. Mike Davies of the NFTA Transit Police Department was honored by Buffalo Crime Stoppers, at their annual awards dinner.

In 2010 Davies volunteered for the Department’s Counter-Terrorism Unit. Tasked with ensuring the overall safety of all individuals utilizing public transportation, the unit used high visibility to prevent criminal activity. While assigned to this unit Mike made several high-profile arrests.  In two of these incidents the subjects, local gang members, were in possession of loaded firearms.

Davies has also been an integral part of the Department’s plain-clothes details which are directed towards narcotic violations and quality of life issues within the transportation system and the surrounding areas. In this capacity Mike preformed in an outstanding manner.

In the area of community policing Mike has been at the forefront. For the past three years he has been a driving force behind the Department’s annual toy drive for disadvantaged children. In 2015 the drive raised more than $3,000 and provided toys and other gifts for over 30 children who otherwise may not have had much of a Christmas. Mike has also played a huge role in the partnership between the Department and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of WNY. This partnership has resulted in numerous events pairing Officers with at risk youth.

This year Mike is serving as the coordinator of the Departments first ever Youth Academy. This Academy will provide students in grades 9-12 with an in-depth look at law enforcement.

Congratulations, Mike on an honor well deserved.
