Compass House Honors Metro

C. Douglas Hartmayer, NFTA Dir. of Public Affairs;
Compass House Exec. Dir., Lisa Freeman; Metro Operator Derrick Blackman
Compass House of Buffalo presented Metro with a Founding Partner Award for its participation in their Safe Place program since the very beginning.

For the past 10 years, each Metro bus has featured a Safe Place decal indicating that a youth who feels threatened can board a bus to seek safe haven. The operator contacts bus control and they in turn contact Compass House and a representative is dispatched to meet the bus and transport the youth to Compass House.

Since 1972, Compass House has made the difference between homelessness and hope in the lives of Western New York youth. Their mission is to provide runaway, homeless and street youth with safe shelter and services, through a voluntary and mutually agreed-upon process, in an environment that supports dignity, respect and self-reliance.

C. Douglas Hartmayer, NFTA Director of Public Affairs and Metro operator Derrick Blackman were presented the award by Compass House Executive Director, Lisa Freeman.
