|Ashley Schanley between Chief Gast and Kimberley Minkel|
There’s something to be said about being “in the right place at the right time.” But it’s what you do at that moment that really matters. Ashley Schanley made the most of her “moment”when she came to the aid of an 86 year old woman who had fallen while riding the escalator at the Allen-Medical Campus Metro Rail station.
While using the escalator Friday, Jan 30, Ashley witnessed the woman lose her balance on the escalator and fall back hitting the back of her head, causing a deep laceration. The woman was unable to get up from her fall.
Ashley, 22, a Level One nursing student at Erie Community College City Campus not only provided first aid to the victim, but pulled her out of harm’s way, preventing further injury. Her unselfish attitude and professional composure gave the woman comfort until medical personnel and NFTA Transit police arrived on the scene.
Kimberley A. Minkel, NFTA Executive Director and George W. Gast Chief, NFTA Transit police honored Ashley Thursday, Feb. 5, at NFTA headquarters before family and ECC facility with a certificate of appreciation and a gift bag from Metro for being a true Good Samaritan
Congrats Ashley, you make us all proud to call Buffalo home.
