Two Transit Police K-9 teams have been asked to help keep people safe during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. The Department of Homeland Security requested the Transportation Security Administration-certified Explosive Detection K-9 teams for the Jan. 21 Presidential Inauguration. They will work with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the District of Columbia, Metro Transit Police Department.
Paratransit offers door-to-door service and Operator Jay Apa takes that very seriously.
On January 2 James Secord left Jay’s bus. It was slippery out, so Jay decided to help the man up to his front door. They were just about there when Secord collapsed. Jay could tell this was more serious than a stumble. He ran and got the man’s wife, they called for assistance and Jay stayed with the Secords until help arrived.
Mrs. Secord was so appreciative of the care and support Jay provided, she made a point of contacting Metro to make a formal commendation. Jay went above and beyond his duties during a difficult situation. She wanted everyone to know it.
And so do we.
