Thur., December 5, a group of talented young ladies from Mount Mercy Academy of Buffalo, along with their Musical Director Fred Kiristis helped kick off the 6th Annual NFTA Metro "Holiday Sounds of the Season" performance series inside our downtown transportation center.

The belle ensemble delighted visitors and employees alike with a 40 minute concert that included many holiday favorites including an amazingly accomplished version of Jingle Bells! Executive Director, Kim Minkel, said, “The group really did a remarkable job, and we are so grateful for their participation.” As a matter of fact, Kim was so impressed with the performance; she couldn’t resist giving the bells a try herself.

Sounds of the Season is an annual event that showcases live performances by local and high school groups. Each year, at least 300 students from across Western New York volunteer their time and talents to help create a fun and festive environment for visitors to the terminal, employees and this year, patrons of the new in-house Tim Hortons restaurant.

Upcoming participants include Our Lady of Black Rock (Dec. 10, 9:30 a.m.), Randolph Academy (Dec. 17, 10:30 a.m.) which may be followed by a visit from Santa Claus, South Park High School (Dec. 17, 12 p.m.) and a Roaming Santa Band from Akron High School (Dec. 20, 8:30 a.m.). This year's Holiday Sounds of the Season will be augmented with the addition of baby grand piano performances arranged by the NFTA Facilities Department.

If you have some time, be sure to stop by and enjoy some festive holiday music!
