Firefighter Honored

Tim Finnegan and Chief Gast
On November 26, Fire Fighter Tim Finnegan of NFTA’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Department was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by Chief Gast for his assistance in treating a stab victim on March 21 in the transit center terminal at 181 Ellicott Street.

On that day, Officer Dave Zarbo of NFTA’s Transit Police called for an ambulance for a young gentleman who reported being stabbed multiple times with a folding knife while walking in the park at Division and Washington Streets after school. The victim indicated that the offender had left the scene on a Metro Grant Street bus and provided a detailed physical description of him.

Fire Fighter Finnegan was at the terminal on business that day and upon learning of the incident, immediately came to the aide of the victim. While assessing the individual and trying to keep him calm, Fire Fighter Finnegan realized the victim had lacerations to his stomach, shoulder and back and began to administer the necessary first aide. Upon arrival of the ambulance, the victim was transported to ECMC for further evaluation.

Due to quick action by all of NFTA Transit Police involved, the offender matching the victim’s description was later apprehended on a Metro bus with the alleged weapon and was processed accordingly.

Thank you Tim for your quick response; nice job!
