Dragon Boat Festival Honors the NFTA

NFTA was recently recognized with an award for its continued support of the Hope Chest Buffalo Niagara Dragon Boat Team, in conjunction with the 2nd annual Dragon Boat Festival held at Gallagher Beach on June 15.   Chris Todorov, Manager of NFTA’s Boat Harbor, was in involved in the logistical details of the event, including safety precautions and dock assembly.

Dragon boating for breast cancer survivors was started to encourage physical activity which has been proven to have a positive effect on the quality of life following a cancer diagnosis.   This event operates similar to other sport-related corporate challenge.  Each sponsored race team occupies one dragon boat with 20 paddlers.    A drummer sits on the back of boat, keeping rowers in sync and, in line with ceremonial traditions; carnations are thrown in the water along the trip.  The goal, of course – to win!

Chris was happy to report that registered participants and spectator attendance tripled this year.  He proudly stated, “NFTA’s Boat Harbor’s ultimate goal has been to get people actively utilizing the waterfront to its full capacity.  The Dragon Boat Festival was an amazing avenue to get waterfront admirers actually in the water while supporting a great cause.”

Nice job Chris – kudos to you for all of your hard work.
