The Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation honored our own George W. Chief Gast was one of nine law enforcement officers from various agencies who were recognized by the Foundation for their individual dedication and outstanding contributions to law enforcement during the past year.
George started his career in 1982 as a patrol officer in Willoughby, Ohio. In 1984 he was hired by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was assigned to the Buffalo Division in 1990. Upon retirement from the FBI, he continued his policing career as the Assistant Federal Security Director for Law Enforcement under the TSA. In March 2010, he was appointed Chief of the NFTA-Transit Police Department. Under his leadership the department initiated its first operational SWAT Team mission; strategized the department’s Counter Terrorism Unit; created a Juvenile Bureau and implemented the their first Citizens Academy. George and his wife Penny reside in Buffalo. Congratulations to the chief on his well deserved honor and for bringing recognition to the authority.
