A trio of honorees

On May 1, Visit Buffalo Niagara hosted their 2013 Beacon Awards luncheon at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. With approximately 500 guests in attendance, the event recognized superior service throughout the industry and functioned as a local kick-off celebration for National Travel and Tourism Week which began on May 5. Among the prestigious honorees was NFTA’s own Bill Vanecek, Director of Aviation, who was presented the Tourism Executive of the Year Award. This honor is in recognition of Bill’s instrumental leadership and guidance in the creation of the new visitor center that is located within the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, as well as his continuing commitment to meeting the needs of millions of airline passengers that travel through the airport each year. In addition, Distinguished Service Awards were presented to Tom Dames, BNIA Airfield Superintendent, for his extraordinary responsibility as current Chairman of the annual International Aviation Snow Symposium and Tom Donnelly, Marketing Materials Manager, for his fundamental role as Assistant Race Director for the Buffalo Marathon. Both of these local events have the distinction of bringing thousands of people from all over the country to our community. Congratulations to all of you for your exceptional achievements!
