Metro operator recognized for more than just driving

Transportation Superintendent, Billy Lobuzzetta,
Metro Bus Operator, Demetrius Evans
On the morning of February 22, a blaze broke out in a three story apartment building on Forest Avenue, leaving 27 residents stranded without shelter. While on his way to work Metro bus operator Demetrius Evans was contacted by Supervisor Nick Julian, and Controller Stephan Panczak, to ask if he could offer assistance.

Without reservation, Mr. Evans headed into the garage, picked up a Metro Bus and drove to the site. He was able to provide temporary shelter for all of the shaken and displaced individuals until professional emergency assistance arrived.

In light of this remarkable showing of compassion and ingenuity, the American Red Cross has awarded NFTA-Metro a certificate in recognition for the assistance provided by Metro personnel for “our neighbors in need.” This group of men demonstrated outstanding sensitivity; they are heroes in our community and deserve recognition. Great job gentlemen!
