Metro operator recognized for more than just driving

Metro Bus Operator, Demetrius Evans 
On the morning of February 22, a blaze broke out in a three story apartment building on Forest Avenue, leaving 27 residents stranded without shelter. While on his way to work Metro bus operator Demetrius Evans was contacted by Supervisor Nick Julian, and Controller Stephan Panczak, to ask if he could offer assistance.

Welcome Michelle Mycek

Michelle Mycek has joined the Authority as our newest Human Resources Assistant. She comes to us from National Air Cargo where she handled all levels of human resources matters including employee development. She has an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development and is currently enrolled at Houghton College where she is working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management.

Mike, who operates out of Metro’s Babcock facility, was driving his bus in the vicinity of Seneca Street and Ryan Street on a cold January morning, when he observed something he knew wasn’t right.

10.5 Billion Transit Trips In 2012

The demand for public transportation rose last year as Americans took 10.5 billion trips, the second highest ridership since 1957, and 154 million more trips than the previous year, according to a report released today by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). This was the seventh year in a row that more than 10 billion trips were taken on public transportation systems nationwide.
