A Big Delivery from FedEx

FedEx Express gave the NFTA a Boeing 727 on Dec. 5. While the Authority does not operate any aircraft, Chairman Howard A. Zemsky and Executive Director Kimberley A. Minkel were on hand to happily accept the gift.

FedEx donates aircraft when it becomes time to retire the planes. Museums, technical schools and, as in our case, fire departments have received 59 planes to date. “Ginger” hauled cargo for FedEx for the last 19 years. It was an Air Canada plane for 14 years prior.

The plane will be permanently located at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, near the Aircraft Rescue and Fire headquarters. ARF will use the 727 for training the BNIA’s 35-person department. It will also make the aircraft available to other first-responder services in the area, including law enforcement.
