Honor Flight Takes Off From Buffalo

The morning of Saturday, May 5, 27 World War II veterans and their escorts arrived at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport to take a trip of a lifetime.

The veterans, who were guests of the not-for-profit all volunteer organization Honor Flight Buffalo, were headed to Washington D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial, which was dedicated in 2004 . . . 59 years after the war ended.

The oldest veteran was 93 and the youngest 82; he enlisted when he was 16.  They represented the Air Force, Army Air Corp., Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy and Army.  They served in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Japan, Iwo Jima, Russia and Guadal Canal.

Thank you to all who served to protect America.

The next Honor Flight is scheduled for Saturday, June 9.
