Cefalu named new director of HSEQ at NFTA

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority announced that Frank J. Cefalu has been named the authority's new Director of Health, Safety and Environmental Quality.

With over 20-years experience in safety and environmental initiatives, Cefalu will help promote and further enhance the organizational safety and environmental performance levels throughout the organization, which continues to remain a high priority for the NFTA.

Cefalu, 53, fills the void created when the former director of HSEQ, Kimberley A. Minkel, was named the NFTA's new executive director this past December. His most recent position was Field Specialist of Safety and Environmental Service for Praxair's Northeast region.

In making the announcement, Minkel said, "We are pleased to have a person with Frank's extensive background in environmental programs, overall safety practices, transportation and public policy join our team. His expertise and proficiency will be valuable in developing comprehensive safety programs to help prevent workplace accidents and ensure ongoing employee participation."

He is experienced in accident reconstruction and investigation, the Smith Defensive Driving System, hazard waste disposal, chemical bulk storage, risk evaluation and forecasting, stormwater compliance, safety policy implementation and working with regulatory agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

A graduate of SUNY Buffalo, he has a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies.  He and his family reside in Amherst, NY.
